The Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE) began operations in February 1994. Its formation was directly linked to the economic reforms and liberalization of the Zambian economy that began in 1991, a key feature of which was the privatization of state-owned enterprises. A stock exchange was viewed as pivotal to the success of the privatization program which was also intended to facilitate foreign investment.
